The department has two basic tasks:
Maintenance and Management of theGarden
1. Production and arrangment of the landscape plants, sanitation and cleaning, plant conservation and protection, maintenance of the related facilities.
2. Management of the tropical plant greenhouse as well as the plant conservation and protection, management of the outfitted greenhouse and plant breeding, research on plant conservation.
3. Plant introduction and conservation, construction and maintenance of living plant management system as well as the related data collection, entry, update and the preservation of relevant records.
4. Control of plant entryand export, update of seed exchange directory, establishment of cultivated plants list and issuance of registration number of newly introduced plants of the garden.
5. Management of the inspective nursery, illustration of the permanent plant map and growth of newly introduced plants.
6. Verification and identification of permanent plants, making plant signs and carrying out phenological observations for important plants.
7. Pest and disease monitoring as well as prevention and control of disaster weeds.
8. Technical training on relevant staff, increasing the responsibility and work skills of the employee.
9. Organization of various plant exhibitions.
Living Collection and Species Collection
The department of Landscape and Gardening is responsible for plant introduction and conservation, construction and maintenance of specialized gardens, plant management as well as construction and maintenance of living plant management system.
Based on the plant resources from East China and abroad, collection of living plants and species provides a technical support for the construction of botanical garden and national strategic reserve of plant resources. Based on specialized gardens and display areas, a total of 3,860 taxa have been collected until now, trying best to turn NBG into a world-class botanical garden which incorporates germplasm conservation, scientific research and botanical education, landscape construction and resource utilization, through the study of introduction and domestication, breeding technology of rare and endangered plant, promotion and utilization of innovative technology for plant species.
